Graduate Certificate in Public Policy

This professional oriented Graduate Certificate in Public Policy (15 credits) provides the tools and frameworks necessary to think analytically, clearly, and systematically about public policy issues; to know how to apply appropriate skills and technologies to problems; and to communicate persuasively in speech and writing. The distinctive and interdisciplinary coursework draws students from diverse departments including urban and regional planning, sociology, economics , and political science.

Requirements

Core coursework (9 credit hours)

  • PLAN 600: Public Policy and Public Planning (3)
  • PUBA 609: Policy Analysis and Implementation (3)
  • Plus one methods course (PLAN 604, PLAN/PACE 629, PLAN 653, PUBA 601, PUBA 607, SOC 605/605L, SOC 606, or SOC 609) (3)

Elective coursework (6 credit hours)

  • Two policy-related courses in consultation with their GCERT advisor (ECON 606, ECON 607, ECON 611, ECON/SUST 636, ECON 650, ECON 674, POLS 660, POLS 673, POLS 770, PLAN 615, PLAN 620, PLAN 630, PLAN 648, PUBA 621, PUBA 625, PUBA 629, PUBA 667, or SOC 615) (6)

Additional Notes

  • Pre-requisites will remain for those courses that have them.
  • Up to 9 credits earned in the PUBA GCERT in Public Policy may be counted toward the PUBA MPA, or another graduate degree with some restrictions.
  • GCERT students wishing to move into the PUBA MPA program must first apply and be formally accepted.
