Program Requirements

In addition to the requirements listed below, students must understand and meet all Graduate Division requirements.

Core Coursework (9 credits)

  • PUBA 604: Leadership and Ethics (3)
    Examines leadership and ethical frameworks in public and nonprofit settings, emphasizing moral reasoning and responsible decision-making.
  • PUBA 630: Nonprofit Management (3)
    Introduces the structure, mission, and management of nonprofit organizations, including governance, funding, and volunteer engagement.
  • PUBA 631: Nonprofit Management Practices and Tools (3)
    Focuses on practical management tools such as grant writing, strategic planning, evaluation, and advocacy.

Elective Coursework (3 credits)

  • One PUBA course (outside courses may be approved by an advisor)

Practicum (3 credits)

  • PUBA 691: Nonprofit Management Practicum (3)
    Apply your learning in a real-world setting through 100 hours of supervised professional experience.

Additional Notes

  • Up to 9 credits earned in this certificate may be applied toward the Master of Public Administration (MPA) or another graduate degree (with approval and restrictions).
  • Students wishing to continue into the MPA program must submit a formal application and be accepted.
  • We offer a variety of funding opportunities to current students.
